There’s a bit of good news for motorists – the proposed 2p rise in fuel duty has been postponed.
With petrol or diesel prices rising almost constantly since the budget, an extra 2p a litre would have made things even worse for those regularly filling up. But the government have responded to drivers concerns and stopped the rise in duty that was planned for October.
Chancellor Alistair Darling said, “Today’s decision will help motorists and businesses get through what is a difficult time for everyone.”
AA president Edmund King responded, saying, “Many motorists have endured months of misery and this is a welcome piece of good news for them.”
While the rising price of oil may mean we still see prices at the pumps rise further, the postponement of the extra duty should still help car owners and truckers out. There’s no word on whether the 2p rise will take place at a later date, or what will happen with 2010’s planned 0.5p per litre duty rise.
