Lewis tops Festival bill

Tickets for next month’s British Grand Prix are sold out, but Formula One fans will get another chance to see Lewis Hamilton in action, just one week later at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Hamilton’s presence in West Sussex on Sunday 13 July couldn’t be more appropriate, as the theme of this year’s three-day event is ‘Hawthorn to Hamilton – Britain’s Love Affair with World Motor Sport’.

Many of the exhibits on display and in action on the 1.16-mile course will emphasise the key role the UK has played in motor racing, often in conjunction with international partners.

From Mike Hawthorn – who used a Ferrari to become Britain’s first world champion in 1958 – to current F1 star Hamilton, who relies on Mercedes power, British drivers and engineers have maximised global resources to rule the motorsport world. And this year’s festival sets out to honour many of these victorious combinations.

No fewer than seven of the current F1 teams will be there, along with a host of famous stars and cars from past and present. “I’m delighted to welcome Lewis to Goodwood for the second year running,” enthused Festival founder The Earl of March. “He thrilled the fans last year, and he’s sure to put on another fantastic show.

“It will be great if Lewis can repeat Mike Hawthorn’s F1 success 50 years ago and win the world title crown for Britain this year.”

Tickets for the event can only be purchased in advance. For details, call 01243 755055, or visit the goodwood.co.uk website.
