Mondeo man typically clocks up an average of 15,483 miles each year says Warranty Direct. It analysed more than 50,000 cars over the last 10 years to see if the benchmark of 12,000 miles per year was correct when judging the mileage of a used model.
The Mondeo topped the list of the hardest working motors, beating its nearest rival by more than 700 miles. The Saab 9-5 took second, racking up 14,771 miles every year, while the Renault Laguna was third at 14,571. The results will be no surprise to our own used cars expert, TV’s Mike Brewer, who rated both the Mondeo and Laguna in Issue 989 and admitted their popularity was well deserved. He said: “For cars that offer, space, pace and luxury, look no further than this pair.”
The Daewoo Matiz was the least used motor in the UK, covering an average of 6,968 miles, followed by the previous- shape Nissan Micra, which typically does only 7,384 miles. A spokesman for Warranty Direct said: “This information could be invaluable when buying a used car. For example, you may find a four-year-old Nissan Micra with 30,000 miles on the clock and think it’s low mileage. In reality it’s merely average, and you could probably find something even better.”
