Subaru turns up the heat

Diehard Subaru fans should prepare to be 'imprezed'!

The Japanese carmaker is launching three new red-hot Imprezas at the British Motorshow, while two other new Subaru models are making UK debuts.

Turning up the heat on the Impreza WRX has created the brand new WRX-S, packing a Prodrive tuned 255bhp motor and upgraded interior.

The new car sprints to 60mph in 5.5 seconds and is surely a performance bargain at £22,495.

And for those who found the STI was not scorching enough – take a look at the roasting STI 380 concept. A Subaru spokesman explained Prodrive completely rebuilt the 2.5-litre boxer to reach the 380bhp power output. Meanwhile the running gear had to be upgraded to cope with the extra grunt.

Subaru will decide whether or not to produce the STI 380 based on how well it is received at the show.

Also new - but not featured at Excel - is the STI 330. With a 0-60 time of just 4.4 seconds it will cost around £30,000 when it goes on sale in September.

Subaru UK boss Laurence Good summed up with the words: “Those who think we are turning our back on performance enthusiasts should think again.”

If that wasn’t enough, the Japanese maker also launched the new Legacy 2.0-litre diesel boxer saloon. Until now the engine has only been available in Sportback and Outback form.
