Mega Aston in supercar superleague

Take a look at the ultimate Aston Martin! Never in the history of the British firm has there been a faster or more expensive model – and Auto Express has the first picture of the amazing machine.

This is the One-77, and it’s come as a real bolt from the blue. The stunning supercar has been kept completely under wraps until now, and is due to reach customers at the end of next year. “We have been working on this for 15 months – since our sale by Ford,” said a spokesman.“It’s a project that’s been given full support from our shareholders and shows the true side of Aston Martin.” With a price tag of £1.2million, it takes Aston into new territory, making it even pricier than current supercars such as the Bugatti Veyron and Koenigsegg CCX. It’s even costlier than the legendary Ferrari Enzo and McLaren F1 road car. “It will be like purchasing a piece of art,” the spokesman continued.

Details are scarce, but Aston Martin has let slip that, as the One-77 codename suggests, the production run will be limited to only 77 examples. That makes it the most exclusive Aston Martin ever.

With its long bonnet and muscular haunches, the proportions are inspired by the Vanquish and DB9. Add the huge, deep side air intakes, massive wheels and flared arches, and the One-77 makes its incredibly high performance intentions clear. The body itself is made from hand-crafted aluminium and the chassis is carbon fibre, resulting in a bodyweight likely to be below 1,800kg.

Power comes from a 7.0-litre V12 unit. There are no official figures yet, but the engine is expected to be derived from the firm’s DBS. As a result, it will produce at least 650bhp and 700Nm of torque.

With the lightweight chassis and body, it is anticipated that the One-77 will cover 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds and reach a top speed of around 220mph. However, Aston Martin is keen to point out that the One-77 will not rival the Veyron’s performance, putting paid to any suggestion the British firm intends to get into a battle over maximum speeds.

Instead, the model will justify its phenomenal price tag by being completely bespoke, offering a truly amazing buying process with a previously unheard-of degree of personalisation. “The whole experience will be the key,” said a spokesman. No two One-77s will be the same.

Buyers can expect to be able to customise every single part of the car, from the gearbox to the interior elements such as leather, metals and suedes for the upholstery and dashboard. Tailored seats, shaped to hug the driver and passenger’s individual curves, will also be available. Nothing has yet been revealed about the cabin itself, but the exquisite detailing of the recently launched DBS is likely to be taken to new heights.

The latest sat-nav systems, plus integrated telephone and hard drive for storing music files, are to be included. “A model of the car will be shown to a select group of customers by the end of the year,” said the spokesman, “with the finished version ready by the end of 2009.”
