Capturing your favourite drives or action from a track day is becoming easier! Although traditional camcorders and digital cameras can be used, they are often heavy and difficult to mount. A dedicated kit is a superior option – and these are getting smaller as well as better value.
Latest to arrive is the GoPro Motorsports Hero. It costs just under £100 and weighs only four ounces, yet is loaded with features. Included in the pack is a variety of fittings, from a suction mount to a range of clip-on kits for flat or curved surfaces.
The camera is multi-adjustable and features a clever quick-release system, while the waterproof casing enables users to mount it inside or outside.
It’s supplied with 16MB of internal memory, which holds only 30 seconds of video. But by adding a 2GB SD card, you can record up to 56 minutes of action, complete with sound. Vibration and wind noise can cause distortion, so to overcome that the GoPro works on a low audio sensitivity, too. It also takes three megapixel digital stills, and can do so every five seconds.
To view the results, you connect the supplied cable to a TV, or download it to a PC via the USB lead. Standard AAA batteries are included, but the maker recommends lithium powerpacks for longer recording life.
